Navigate EUDR Compliance Seamlessly with the EUDR Coffee Compass

To support member companies conducting a risk assessment, collecting adequate information and identifying potential mitigation measures, the German Coffee Association has commissioned GRAS – Global Risk Assessment Services to provide a handbook containing the following components:

a) Options and recommendations in providing adequate information that the coffee is deforestation-free and legally produced.

b) Maps that help identify subnational hot spots for the presence of forest and the risk of deforestation. The maps are based on the analysis of blended data sets and display results for the administrative level of municipalities for 18 coffee-producing countries.

c) Analysis of internationally recognized datasets to identify governance and human rights risks on national level for 18 coffee-producing countries.

d) Information on risk factors to consider for supply chain/company specific risks.

e) Related (non-exclusive) list of potential risk mitigation measures per topic.

While the EUDR Coffee Compass is an ally in your due diligence process, it is important to note that it does not provide legal advice and is not designed for geolocation data checks. This handbook is meant to support the risk assessment process of companies, by describing relevant risk factors, providing abstract risk indications for 18 coffee-producing countries and providing options on how to implement and document risk mitigation measures.

Our EUDR Coffee Compass is an exclusive service for members, granting access to these resources.

GRAS is an independent service provider, who possesses extensive expertise in latest remote sensing technologies and database use for social and ecological risks. We bring firsthand knowledge of the coffee industry, having implemented projects in coffee-producing countries, and are affiliated with 4C as a sister company.

Our team has substantial experience in conducting risk assessments and identifying and monitoring changes in land use through remote sensing and geodata. We specialize in the development of monitoring tools, such as those designed for large-scale data collection and analysis in the production areas of smallholders. Our science-based approaches include environmental and social issues such as political and labor-related topics, provide global coverage and apply to multiple crops and sectors, supporting the clients from the private and public sectors for more than 10 years. The development of GRAS has been supported by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture through the Agency for Renewable Resources (FNR).

Our capabilities include the implementation of DKV risk analysis based on the criteria of the German Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetzt (LkSG), as well as the DKV grievance mechanism Ear4U.
